This opportunity will be based mainly in Midrand (halfway between Johannesburg and Pretoria). There will be a requirement to travel overseas annually to attend conferences etc. as well as to travel to various Branch offices in South Africa. It is anticipated that total travel requirements will not exceed three periods of two weeks each year.

The South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE) is an independent, autonomous body, representing over 8000 civil engineers, civil engineering technologists and civil engineering technicians.

It is responsible for the advancement of the civil engineering profession and for the dissemination of knowledge of the art and science of civil engineering.

This opportunity will be of interest to a dynamic professional with excellent communication and management skills and a passion for civil engineering.

The CEO will be responsible for promoting the image and standing of SAICE and its members and for communication and liaison with SAICE members and branches, government, tertiary educational institutions as well as local and overseas institutions. As such, the CEO should be comfortable in communicating SAICE's position across a range of media, including television and radio.

He, or she, will be responsible for leading the Institution in the pursuit of its strategic objectives, transformation, and for the efficient management of the Institution, its national office and secretariat with the support of department heads, in a challenging environment of demographic and environmental imperatives.

The ideal applicant will have a minimum of 15 years post-graduate experience with a good understanding of the relationships between the various bodies and organisations in the civil engineering community. Prior experience in the management of a business unit with a turnover of R 50 million per year and a staff complement of 20 persons will be advantageous.
