Profile :
The South African Institute of Steel Construction is the recognised authority in South Africa for the development and capacity building of the South African structural steel industry.
It represents steel producers, design engineers, fabricators, construction and erection specialists.
They wish to appoint an experienced engineer to be responsible for the promotion and development of the use of steel in multi-storey buildings.
This opportunity will be of interest to a Structural Engineer with a minimum of 10 years post graduate experience, at least five of which should have been with a recognised consulting engineer focussing on structural design.
The Structural Engineer will be responsible for playing a leading role in developing the use of steel in multi-storey buildings and he or she will manage and direct external consultants and industry experts to co-ordinate the application of international best practise in the South African Structural Steel Industry.
He or she will be responsible for analysing various business models and for optimising the complete process of creating a new multi-storey steel framed building (architectural design, engineering design, cost estimates, the steel supply chain, detailing, fabrication, management information systems, projects management, erection, fire protection, integration of the structure with other trades etc.) with a view to streamlining and maximising the efficiencies of all elements of the process.
This will be achieved by closely liaising with local and international experts, as well as executives from SAISC member companies, to distill their knowledge into a holistic overhaul of South African practise.
Local and international travel will be required and the successful applicant must be able to demonstrate the communication skills and personality to allow him or her to communicate with senior executives throughout the structural steel industry.
